Experience
Content Strategist, Digital Wave · Aug 2012 – Oct 2026
Started supporting the agency's content lead on client work, then took over client accounts and day-to-day delivery. Grew into leading content for website projects, partnering with designers and developers to define content needs for new sites and components.
- University-wide consolidation (large public research university): As content strategist, helped consolidate a sprawl of independent group websites into a single Drupal platform with shared design components, information architecture, and tools. Rearchitected site maps with university marketing and individual units, trained content owners to write to the new university content strategy, and populated content. Identified functionality groups needed beyond the original core site, defining the content models and UX requirements to extend the platform. Equipped the university's team to continue the rollout independently after the engagement ended.
- Long-term content partner (private university, 2012–2026): Served as an extension of the university's marketing team for 14 years, supporting its migration to Adobe AEM, running recurring usability testing, and improving the site based on findings. Wrote and built a documentation site guiding content authors on how to use the available components.
- Program finder: After a merger, built the content model for a university-wide program finder, mapping 100+ programs across 12 colleges to a standardized structure supporting 12 filters. Baseline testing showed prospective students didn't realize the university offered programs it did; follow-up testing confirmed they could now find programs and use the filters.
- Content migrations: Migrated and restructured content for public and private universities, a community college, professional schools, and research centers across Drupal, AEM, Hannon Hill Cascade, WordPress, and Sitecore. Led teams of up to 5, wrote documentation and standardized processes, QAed results, and trained clients to maintain their own sites with accessibility and SEO built in.
- Structured content workflow: Clients rewriting content for new CMSs struggled with blank Google Docs, and what they submitted rarely fit the new content structure. Found and championed GatherContent (now Content Workflow), built the project templates and workflows that guided writers to produce structured, CMS-ready content, and trained internal teams and clients to use it. Managed Digital Wave's partnership with the vendor, which led to company-wide adoption and its use as the content back end for CustomViewbook, Digital Wave's personalized online viewbook product.
- Content governance: Built content approval workflows customized to each client's governance structure, implementing them in ClickUp, Content Workflow, or tracking spreadsheets depending on the project. Reviewed and fact-checked internal and website marketing writing and client deliverables before they went out.
- User research: Planned, moderated, and reported on dozens of one-on-one usability sessions (5–10 participants per round) for clients including a private university and a national medical certification board. Ran independent on-site testing with college students to build a body of findings Digital Wave applied across higher education projects.
- Analytics: Served as Digital Wave's go-to Google Analytics resource, answering team and client questions, building reports, troubleshooting implementations, and supplying baseline data for strategies and KPIs. Measured shifts in user behavior after a university-wide visual refresh, which modernized the interface, highlighted focus programs, and drew attention to key calls to action. Designed a plan to consolidate a medical certification board's public site, blog, and secure portal into a single GA4 property to track users across all three.
- Editorial program and web presence: Helped a company founder launch an outreach program with its own blog and email list, then merged it into Digital Wave's main web presence, expanding the roster of writers and topics. Managed the editorial calendar and regular contributors, edited blog and social posts, and scheduled and published content on the company's WordPress site. Supported sales by contributing to proposals and scoping content work.
Earlier Experience
Web Director, VICRadio.org · Dec 2010 – Apr 2012: Redesigned and rebuilt the station's website in WordPress, using PHP for dynamic content and a MySQL database for DJ profiles.
Content and social media internships, WXPN and Red Flag Media · 2010 – 2011: Wrote blog posts in a magazine's distinctive voice, contributed a column to Cowbell Magazine's print edition, and fact-checked articles.
